Before the 1960’s most of the La JASSE surface was used for cattle and only a very small part was used for vineyards. When the Beaujard family repatriated from North Africa to the Mediterranean South of France, they became the proud owners of this Domaine and they were the first who slowly started to reclaim more surface for vineyards and set the basis for Domaine de la Jasse nowadays.
The majority of the current vineyard was planted after the Beaujard family sold Domaine de la JASSE to a well known and important Dutch wine merchant family Walraven.
Hans Walraven bought Domaine de la Jasse in the early 1990’s to follow his favourite wine dream and finally was able to create an own similar type of Pauillac styled Cabernet-Sauvignon wine.
It was love at first sight, not only did Mr. Walraven have a deep love of intense ripe Cabernet Pauillac fruit, at La JASSE he finally found a perfect spot to develop his own Cabernet-Sauvignon dream. The virgin soils, the hill side protection, the perfect Sea and micro-climate conditions, which remind him by the way a lot of Bordeaux, gave him all the right ingredients to succeed successfully!
The challenge was to reclaim more surface for vineyards and build a professional winery, with all the new available wine techniques and innovations. To be able to create such a successful winery and vineyard he desperately needed a talented winemaker, who actually was young and still able to follow and most important to believe in the Cabernet-Sauvignon dream of Mr. Walraven.
Before the start of the reclamation for more vineyard surface and the construction of the professional winery, Walraven found the perfect winemaker for his dream, Bruno Le BRETON. Together with Bruno and other members of Bruno’s winemaking team they slowly succeed to realize the dream of Walraven, A NEW WINE STAR WAS BORN !
In the year 2008 Hans Walraven retired and sold La Jasse to his loyal & talented winemaker and friend Bruno Le Breton. Together they planted a lot of Cabernet-Sauvignon vignes in the extreme soils of the La JASSE vineyards with the constant aim of producing each year a better PREMIUM wine than the year(s) before.
Today Domaine de la Jasse is exclusively represented in appox. 15 key-markets across the world and exports approx. 85 - 90% of its wine production. A NEW LA JASSE ERA HAS STARTED!
With Bruno Le Breton taking the sole lead at La JASSE and his next step to successfully get GRAND CRU star winemaker Patrick Léon on board, an exceptional improvement into higher quality wines commenced and this will be invaluable and a solid guarantee for the near- and future of Domaine de la Jasse and its successful wines!
